First of all, let's be clear, I don't believe there is such thing as men's knives and women's knives. There are knives that are without a doubt heavily marketed to specific folks. However, I do believe there are features or characteristics of certain knives that cause them to be a better choice for certain people. Keep in mind, while I believe this knife is an excellent choice for women, it's also an excellent choice for men. I guess that makes it a great all-around blade for anyone and everyone. Spyderco Dragonfly 2 So, with all that being said, what is my choice for the best EDC pocket knife for women? In my opinion, it is the Spyderco Dragonfly 2. There, I said it. Before we get into the reasons why I believe it is a great choice, let's look at a few of the specifications. However, for the purpose of this article, I'm particularly referencing the Dragonfly 2 with the FRN handle material, VG-10 steel, and plain edge (C28PBK2). Size The small size of the Dragonfly 2 offers several benefits. First of all, it doesn't draw as much attention as larger knives may. This could be important depending on where you live, where you work, etc. It's a small knife that thinks it's a much larger knife. Despite the small size, the Dragonfly 2 can handle 95% of daily tasks, if not more. It works well for me in terms of functionality versus size. Weight This knife is crazy lightweight...and by lightweight, I mean you barely notice it's there. The FRN handles, wire clip, etc. really save weight without compromising the utility and function of this knife. Handle Ergonomics The handle ergonomics of the Dragonfly 2 just work. I don't know how to explain it other than it feels excellent in my hand, it's super comfortable, and feels solid during use. Steel I find the VG-10 to be a good all-around steel for an EDC knife. It sharpens easily enough, holds an edge well, and has decent corrosion resistance. Spine Cusp What the heck is a spine cusp? The spine cusp on this knife sits on the top where your thumb naturally rests. It sits right over the cutting edge. The spine cusp on the Dragonfly 2 has great placement and good jimping to aid in control during use. Finger Choil The finger choil on this knife works in perfect concert with the spine cusp. It offers arguably better control, especially on a smaller knife. Yes, it sacrifices some cutting length, but it is a non-issue for most people. What do I use it for? It's small, lightweight, functional, and easy to carry. It handles most tasks with ease and does a lot of the things are larger knife can do. It feels great in the hand and offers the confidence needed to take on big jobs. It's definitely my favorite and may soon be yours.
