When it comes to finding a balance between everyday performance, blending in, and being prepared for the unknown, VERTX has a lot of good options. Especially styles that allow you to carry plenty of EDC gear whenever you need them. We will be taking a deeper look at the VERTX Grip Pants and why they may be the pants you want to pick up next. These pants are a mix of work and casual wear, so you get a little bit of both and then some. VERTX puts in a lot of effort in designing and manufacturing pants and other clothing that fits the gray man and EDC enthusiast lifestyles. For the record, I purchased the Grip Pants, as well as the Defiance Jeans, Cutback Technical Pants, and Delta Stretch 2.1 so I could provide real user-generated reviews and a comparison of the 4 styles. First and foremost, let’s take a look at the pockets. An average pair of work or casual pants will have four or even five pockets. Cargo pants will probably have a few more than that. However, if you need to store EDC tools that you’ll need when the unexpected hits, you’re going to need more pockets. The VERTX Grip Pants have a grand total of 14 pockets. Plenty of space on hand to ensure that you have organized space and you know where everything is. If you need a tool or some other piece of gear, you’ll more than likely have a place for it and a way to keep it organized. There are pockets for rifle mags, wallets, passports, and plenty of EDC tools such as flashlights, multitools, and more. When it comes to preparedness and carrying gear to support that mentality, these pants will have you covered. The front pockets are made from mesh that is soft and breathable. This will ensure excellent comfort while allowing for plenty of space. You also have front thigh pockets to keep knives and other handy tools close to you. You'll have more pockets than you’ll know what to do with compared to a standard pair of pants. If you have the tools you need to carry with you no matter where you go, they’ll be able to fit in these pockets. How Are They Made? Every pair of VERTX pants that is made has an athletic fit to them. This provides you with the best mobility and flexibility possible. It’s exactly what you want whenever you want a pair of pants that won’t constrict your movement. To further ensure better movement, the crotch is fully gusseted and allows for four-way stretching. Whether you are crouching, standing, or in some other position, you won’t have to worry about these pants ripping apart easily. This has a brass YKK locking zipper, which is as high quality as you are going to get. The front pockets are reinforced to ensure less wear and tear. If durability is something you want out of a pair of pants, you won’t be disappointed with these pants in particular. If you're a belt kind of person, and you should be, these pants have a total of eight belt loops. They will accommodate belts ranging from 0.875 to 1.75 inches in width. If you regularly carry a firearm, either IWB or OWB, I find the placement and spacing of the belt loops to be very accomodating. They definitely help distribute weight and make things a little bit more comfortable. Either way, you get belt loops that get the job done. Lastly, the seams are double-stitched to ensure that you have a little extra durability. Materials These pants are made from the following materials: 98 percent cotton and two percent Spandex twill. You get two fabrics that will allow for greater movement while being able to keep you comfortable each time you wear them. They work pretty well in regards to breathability and have a super soft feel. How do They Fit? I purchased a 33x34 in the Grip Pants, and as a reminder, I'm 6'2" and about 185-190 lbs. I would describe the fit as somewhat relaxed, but the super-soft feel of the fabric makes them feel comfortable beyond the fit. Like most VERTX pants, I wish the inseam had a bit more length, but I feel a 36" would be too long. Pros and Cons Now that you know what’s included in this pair of pants, it’s time to take a look at the pros and cons. You’ll find out what we liked about these pants and also find out about what areas where they can improve. Let’s take a look at the pros first and foremost: Pros Super Comfortable There is nothing quite like a comfortable pair of pants. You’ll get exactly that whenever you put these on. Whether you are standing or in a seated position, you won’t feel like the movement is restricted. No one wants to wear pants that will make you feel uncomfortable in the slightest. As mentioned above, they have a super soft feel that I can only describe as something like brushed cotton. Great Belt Loops One of the things that we liked was the belt loop spacing and design. I know, I'm talking about belt loops again. They work great for belts and tools designed with EDC and concealed carry in mind. Even if you don’t conceal carry, no big deal. They are great for everyday use and for preventing sag and droop, which is common with pants with poor belt loop spacing. Cons Limited Color Options There are only three different colors to choose from with this style of pants. VERTX may be aiming for a mix of casual and work here based on the most popular color choices. But a couple more options, including lighter colors, would be nice to choose from. Front Thigh Pockets I'm listing the front thigh pockets as a con, mainly because I'm being picky and I don't really know an application where I would use them. The top of the pockets has a wide opening which increases the possibility of items falling out more easily. I also found them to look awkward and to feel a bit uncomfortable when filled with bulkier items. I could do without these and not miss a beat with these pants. Are These Pants Worth Buying? If you want a pair of pants that will give you that excellent blend of work and casual, the VERTX Grip Pants are clearly a good option. Especially if you want something that isn’t too casual or too ‘worky’. With so many pockets and a great deal of comfort, you’d be hard-pressed to find a pair of similar pants. While they are not my favorite pants offered by VERTX, I can see why some folks swear by them.
