We’ve started carrying two different pepper spray models from ASP: the Metro Defender D2 and the Sport Defender D1.
Both are compact, lightweight, and designed for everyday carry. And while they share the same basic idea, discreet, keychain-ready pepper spray, they’re built a little differently and suit different types of carry.
As an FYI…we’re still putting both through daily use, so this isn’t a full review yet.
However, here’s a quick intro and side-by-side breakdown if you’re deciding which one might fit you better.
ASP Metro Defender D2

The D2 is the more refined of the two. It looks like a small flashlight and feels solid in the hand, thanks to its aluminum body. It’s easy to clip to a keychain or carry in a pocket without drawing attention.

- Looks like a keychain flashlight
- Rotating safety collar prevents accidental discharge
- Metal housing adds weight and durability
- Quick-release keyring makes it easy to grab in a hurry
It’s compact enough to carry anywhere but doesn’t feel cheap. Good option if you want something discreet and sturdy.
ASP Sport Defender D1

The D1 takes a slightly different approach. It’s made of lightweight polymer instead of metal and has a more open shape, kind of like a slim grip with finger grooves. It’s still compact, but the look and feel are more utilitarian than sleek.

- Polymer body with finger grooves
- Rotating safety collar prevents accidental discharge (same as above)
- Lightest of the two models
- Clip-style keyring attachment
This one feels more like gear than an accessory. It might be better for gym bags, running gear, or just keeping in a day bag. It’s simple, easy to hold, and extremely lightweight.

What’s Next
We’re still carrying both, testing how they hold up in different daily routines…keychains, bags, pockets, and more.
We’ll follow up with a full review covering spray pattern, reliability, ease of use, and durability.
For now, this is just a first look to help you understand the differences.
